about katie
Born and raised in Oklahoma City, Katie has been dancing since age four and performing on stage since she was seven. She has a passion for movement, storytelling, and leading a room. Recently she presented "Just a Girl That Men Forget" (a self-produced dance narrative) at the Spark Theater Festival and the Open Choreography Lab associated with New York Theater Barn. Other credits include include “The Giant Hoax” at Theater Row (Assistant Choreo), “Crazy for You” at Sharon Playhouse (Associate Choreo), and “A Chorus Line” at Classen SAS Theater (Choreographer).

In addition to choreography, Katie has served as dance captain in a number of productions including “Anything Goes” (Sharon Playhouse), “Mary Poppins”, and “Spamalot" (Poteet Theater). She is also a choreographer and program manager for ChickenShed NYC, a children’s inclusive theater company.

This piece is an exploration of the sexualization of women and how it effects us. Society has a history of using degrading words, pictures, and actions towards women because we are not looked upon as “equal.” Expressed through dance, five women express how these harmful actions effect them both emotionally and physically.
